- By: Matthew Rosenfeld, VP/GM of KSEE24/CBS47 Television and Chairman of the Board of the Fresno Chamber of Commerce
My one year term is coming to an end so this will be my last article as the Fresno Chamber’s Chairman of the Board. Many people have asked if I’m relieved to be at the proverbial “end of the line.”
It’s been a lighting fast year. The opportunity to serve in the Chairman role has been rewarding and also a challenge, balancing professional demands in a year with unprecedented change and growth.
If you are like me, you look back at the end of any year in your life and judge your performance. You contemplate all the things you would have done differently. “Would have, should have, could have” comes to mind. You might wish you could’ve done more and you certainly produce a mental inventory of the takeaways and highlights.
But, as I reflect, I can say it’s easy to declare the best of part of this Chairmanship and the best part of this Chamber.
It’s the people.
The Fresno Chamber of Commerce is a magnet for great people and I’ve fully enjoyed fostering relationships and serving alongside amazing directors, a committed staff, and fantastic Chamber members in our business community.
It’s the end of the line for my Chairmanship, but this is not the end of the line in meeting great people that are associated with the Chamber. It’s just the beginning for me and you to network and discover local businesses and share the exciting offerings of our businesses. In fact, the Chamber’s membership has grown in the past year so you will have more members to network with.
For me, it’s not the end of the line when it comes to attending sessions of the Chamber’s Small Business University and taking advantage of the opportunity to gain key information and to learn best practices from strong businesses and business people in our community. In the past twelve months there have been more Small Business University sessions than ever before and the Chamber has proven itself to be a leader in business education.
For me, it’s not the end of the line to enjoy or assist in the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee’s advocacy efforts as it continues to nurture relationships with local, regional and state elected officials and their staffs to ensure that our member businesses are represented. The GAC focuses on local issues and took positions on more than 44 pieces of State Legislation in the past 12 months.
It’s not the end of the line for Leadership Fresno, now in its 30th class. With more dedicated alumni than ever, Leadership Fresno will always be the premier community leadership training program, created by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce. It is dedicated to recruiting, equipping, engaging and uniting our present and future leaders of all ages and experience levels; each committed to making a difference in our community.
It’s not the end of the line in all of the amazing work being done by the many Chamber committees. It’s not too late for you to attend an E.A.R.T.H. Committee meeting and finds the nexus between business and the environment or an Ambassadors meeting which celebrates new Chamber members. It’s not too late for you to take part in the San Joaquin Political Academy that assists in the development of visionary political leaders who recognize that a healthy business climate is necessary for a strong economy, and a strong economy is necessary for a vibrant community.
The Fresno Chamber of Commerce’s mission has long been to promote economic prosperity for our region and all of our citizens. Over the past 12 months the Chamber has grown in members and member services; offering more ways to help your business. It’s not the end of the line for me or for anyone to get involved and to make our businesses better and to work together in building a better community.
For me, this end of this line is just the beginning.
